Hi, my name is Shar Schmidt and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2017. I’m also BRCA1+. I did 16 rounds of chemotherapy, had a bilateral mastectomy, and 33 sessions of radiation therapy.
In 2019, I had a complete hysterectomy to minimize my chances of other cancers. I had DIEP flap reconstruction in November 2019, but in April 2020, I chose to have an aesthetic flat closure.
In September of 2022, a small spot in my neck was found on a PET scan before thyroid surgery. It was positive for breast cancer, and I was re-diagnosed with MBC. I’m in active treatment, and currently taking Lynparza. Although getting a cancer diagnosis can be life-shattering, I’m so grateful I found a community of folks that I could bond with. I now have breasties all over the world and we support one another. Breast cancer can be a lonely diagnosis, but you’re not alone.
