My name is Seyiida, and I am a native of Nigeria. I am also a wife, mother, and breast cancer survivor! My journey began with me discovering a lump when I was breastfeeding my daughter in November, 2022. I assumed it was just a blocked milk duct, so I waited and watched it for a few months thinking it would settle on its own. Come January, the lump grew in size so I had no choice but to see a specialist. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple-Negative Breast Cancer in January, 2023, at age 33. My first course of treatment was a lumpectomy in the same month with a mastectomy a month later in February. Between the lumpectomy and mastectomy, I suffered several infections after my lumpectomy and the incision site wouldn’t close. After many failed attempts to close the infected sites, I settled on getting the mastectomy! Then after 16 rounds of radiation, my scan result was clear and I welcomed my new normal. I have been singing my heart out and sharing my story to anyone who would listen. This is important to me because in Nigeria survivors and cancer patients typically hide their diagnosis. As for this survivor, I’m not gonna stop spreading awareness!
